Spank Rock

Spank Rock is Booty Bass evolved. Taking the mantle of 2live Crew,69 Boyz and other booty bass pioneers. He started in Philly and  merges Booty Bass with Electronic music and uses tongue in cheek lyrics to giet more than just your rump shakin’.Songs like “Backyard Betty” and “Bump”  are a must for bass lovers. The lyrics are raw and nasty just like Uncle Luke but the delivery is refined and not as silly. The album YOYOYOYOYO  is fun and I had it in heavy rotation for weeks after buying it. His latest project Bangers and Cash with Benny Blanco is an EP with 5  songs that harken more essence of 2live Crew. Songs like “B.O.O.T.A.Y. ” with up coming artists Santogold & Black Betty is my personal favorite.

Mattafix

Mattafix are a UK duo, made up of Marlon Roudette and Preetesh Hirji. The sound is hip-hop.reggae,jazz,afrobeat.The music is like a mix of Sade and old school hip hop beats with reggae mixed in sometimes. Definitly head nodding music.I found this album and I was blown away that this is not in the US yet. They really have a creativity that is rarely seen anymore in the US.
Noteable tracks are “11:30″ ,”Living Darfur”, “Things Have Changed”,”Big City Life”.

Alice Smith

Alice Smith is soul from the bottom up. So sweet and pungent is her voice. Jazzy and modern. You will fall in love and do not want to let go. Her sound is very personal, maybe too personal. Songs like “Gary’s Song”, or “Woodstock”.show her voice and talent.
